GET IN THE GAME
At the Athens-McMinn Family YMCA, sports and recreational activities are something special. Friendly competition, lots of variety and a supportive environment means team sports and recreation is fun again. Whether your child misses "suiting up" or is new to team sports, the Y's sports leagues provide a perfect opportunity to be active, social and reconnect with friends in the sport they love. Basketball, tumbling and T-Ball are just some of the options available to get your child on the court or on the field. We also offer various sports camps throughout the year to work with you kids on technique, skills, and team work.
Instructors and Coaches - often volunteers and many parents - model fairness and hard work while emphasizing teamwork, cooperation, and developing good values in our sports programs. We are always looking for volunteer coaches that will recognize achievements large and small and understand that winning is not just about the score. By playing sports, kids and their families feel a sense of belonging that comes from a community gathering together to cheer on their team. Everyone plays - Everyone wins!!!
Youth baseball is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. Y T-Ball promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! Open to kids ages 3-5.
Y T-Ball is designed to teach young baseball players the fundamentals of the game. Participants will learn how to catch, throw, and bat in a fun team atmosphere.
The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and play in a non-competitive environment. Each participant will receive a game jersey & hat.
- The league starts April 2nd & April 3rd.
- All practices and games will be played on Mondays and Tuesdays at 6pm.
- $45 members
- $60 non-members
Got game? Hit the hardwoods with the folks who invented the game - the YMCA! The Athens-McMinn Family YMCA Youth Basketball is co-ed and open to kids ages 4-11.
Basketball was invented in 1891. While teaching at the International YMCA Training School, James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.
Y youth sports encourage and promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition rather than rivalry, the value of participation over winning, team-building as well as individual development, a positive self-image and a sense of fair play and mutual respect for others. Parents are encouraged to be more than mere spectators, by contributing their time as volunteer coaches - as well as being their kid's greatest fan.
SEASON DETAILS COMING SOON.
