As construction and renovation work continues at our YMCA to become a facility truly FOR ALL people, some upcoming temporary closures are necessary to get closer to the end result. We have entered phase two of the LOCKER ROOM & ADA ACCESSIBILITY PROJECT, which will include a temporary pool closure and temporary full facility closure. 

TEMPORARY POOL CLOSURE APRIL 8TH-APRIL 20TH:

Work includes: stair resurfacing, bleacher resurfacing, pool plaster resurfacing (the pool will be drained), and more.

TEMPORARY FULL FACILITY CLOSURE APRIL 17TH-APRIL 20TH:

Work includes: replacing the remaining main electrical panels and replacing all electrical conduit

Some significant changes to the lower lobby have taken place this morning! Caution: Please watch your step since tile has been removed. Don't worry! New and improved tile will be placed there in the months to come.

Things to know:

1. The restrooms upstairs in the lower lobby have closed for renovation work. Remember, there will be four individual restrooms when the project is complete. 
2. Tile has been removed from the lower lobby where members and guests will walk to get to exercise areas. Please watch your step and refrain from walking barefoot when entering and exiting the pool.
3. The showers are not yet available due to continued plumbing work. Crews are still working on the other side of the wall inside the Family Locker Room units and ADA lift shaft. 
4. Temporary changing stations/lockers are still available and use of them is highly encouraged since benches and new lockers have not yet arrived!
5. Access from the locker rooms to the pool are not available. Please continue using the main entryway or give us a call for lower level parking lot access.

6. An ADA lift will be added to the outside wall where the existing women's restroom is to give members and guests access to our lower lobby rather than traveling around the building to get to exercise areas.

1. The restrooms have closed for demo work! Exciting times are ahead...like four individual stalls excitement!

2. Tile has been removed from walkways, so please use caution and wear shoes from/to the pool. New tile will be installed! 

3. As we wait for more materials to arrive like the pool doors, there will not be access from the locker rooms to the pool at this time. Benches and lockers will also be installed. These installation areas have been marked with yellow signs!

Stall doors have arrived and are installed! This fresh look and updated material should limit wear and tear over time. 

1. The ADA shower area and individual showers have received their stall doors! Benches have not yet arrived. 

2. The dry changing stalls should give you plenty of space to change after work into your workout gear. When the stall is occupied, the lock will show RED. 

3. New locker room entry way doors!

More fixtures have been added to the Men's and Women's Locker Room as of today. Also, in a very exciting update, work has started on the ADA chair lift shaft that will provide access from the lower lobby to the pool deck!

1. The work on the ADA chair lift shaft has kicked off! What's on the other side of the wooden wall? Take a look! Crews cut into the floor (which is the ceiling of the pool pump room) to start constructing the shaft. The railing is a barrier between the lift and the Family Locker Room spaces. There will also be day lockers located in this area.

2. Our team is so proud to offer ADA shower spaces. We will have four showers like this--one in the Men's and Women's Locker Rooms and one in each Family Locker Room space.

3. Vanities and sinks have been installed in each space (except for the Family Locker Room). 

The wooden temporary wall has been removed in our lower lobby. You can now see bits and pieces of what the crew has been working on for the last few months! Be advised: you still cannot enter the locker room areas.

Check out the porcelain and mirror installations in the locker rooms! You will also notice more of the tile has been installed to areas along with showers.

1. The Women's Locker Room (WLR) individual shower installation is still ongoing, but look at that setup!

2. The toilets have been installed in the WLR. This includes an ADA accessible toilet pictured in the first photo.

3. Individual showers have been installed in the Men's Locker Room (MLR). When you walk into the room, it looks like there are only three showers with one serving as an ADA accessible shower. Don't forget to look to the right and see this single space on the other wall. Up next, stall doors!

4. Mirrors are being installed today before vanities and sinks are added. The MLR will include urinals and toilets.

5. The WLR dry changing and locker spaces will have a very similar look to the MLR. Our goal is to give you dry spaces to change away from the shower stalls.

6. You'll soon get sneak peeks of more progress coming along in the ADA lift shaft that will take you down to the pool. This used to be an office overlooking the pool!

7. The ADA accessible showers have been installed in the Family Locker Rooms/single locked units. 

Tile and paint have now entered the chat! Take a look at the private shower stalls, an ADA accessible shower and dry changing stalls, and a tile update!

1. What once was a large, single shower space in the Men's Locker Room is now a space of individual showers!

2. Dry changing stations and spaces for day lockers are being updated!

The YMCA will close on Friday, January 31st at noon due to contractors replacing electrical panels original to the building. Contractors will work overnight to complete this phase of electrical work. The YMCA will reopen on Saturday, 2/1 at 8am for regular schedule.

Scope of Work: Electrical panel replacement, causing power outages inside the buildling. 

Dates: 1/31 at noon and overnight

1. This is formerly the Aquatics Office space and is being transformed into the shaft for the ADA lift. This lift will take swimmers from the lower lobby down to the pool deck. Beside the wooden wall supports being built is the area dedicated to the Family Locker Room units.

2. A new wall is being built to separate the Family Locker Room units from the Women's Locker Room. This is the orginal entryway to the pool deck from the Women's Locker Room and it will continue to be the enryway.

3. Showers are being carried in and installed to their rightful homes! We know you have missed the showering space, and we have as well. The good news is showers will have their own stalls, but so will dry changing areas. No more combo spaces! If you aren't a swimmer, you will have a private dry changing space to use.

4. Speaking of dry changing stations, here is a look at a couple of them. 

5. The door to gain access to the Women's Locker Room from the lower lobby is just a few feet away from the doorway to the ADA lift and the Family Locker Rooms. Don't forget, there will be lockers available outside of the Family Locker Rooms, so a member does not have to enter an actual locker room to store items.

6. This will become a utility closet for staff to use. A little storage space goes a long way! Just down the walkway is the entryway to the Men's Locker Room.

7. The pool windows that once overlooked our indoor pool from the Aquatics Office have been mostly bricked in for the ADA lift shaft!

Scope of Work: Entryway added to the temporary wall in the lower lobby

A new entryway has been added to the temporary wall in the lower lobby next to the pool doors. This is to allow contractors to bring materials in and out of the locker room areas. Permanent walls have been installed to separate the locker room areas again post-demo, causing the new entryway to be installed.

Members may see contractors delivering items to each other via this entryway, but very minimal interruptions to daily operations should be expected.

Scope of Work: Webb Plumbing and Wilson Construction will re-route the backwash line and other plumbing impacting the pool area. This work is being done so they can start to build the shafts for the ADA lifts.

Date of Closure: Thursday, 11/21 through Saturday, 11/23

*Due to unforeseen circumstances during the scheduled pool outage, the pool will remain closed through 11/23. An update will be sent on the app at noon on 11/24 of re-open details.

Scope of Work: The YMCA will be closed In order to complete necessary plumbing demo work and new installation work for the duration of the locker room renovation project, it will be essential for contractors to install plumbing isolation valves. Due to the complexity of our building’s plumbing infrastructure, this work will require that the water be shut off for the day on Friday, October 4th. This work will hopefully prevent necessary closures in the future. We will reopen at the regular time on Saturday at 8am.

Scope of Work: Complete renovation of both the Men’s & Women’s locker room spaces. Showers will not be available for the duration of the project. Temporary changing rooms have been set up on the pool deck and in the Conference Room (located at the end of the hallway where the coffee bar is located). A temporary staging wall will be set up in the lower lobby in order to maximize safety and reduce noise and access to the construction areas.

A temporary wall has been built to seperate construction work from member walk through areas.

Scope of Work: Some demo work will have to be taken out of the locker rooms onto the pool deck area to get the debris outside. Extra traffic on the pool deck is possible. Staff will collaborate with contractors to insure this is minimized.

9/30: Cones have been setup on the pool deck for construction walk through traffic. Please flag down or ask a lifeguard/staff member to assist you in exiting the pool as needed based on cone placement.

As of 9/25/24:

Date of Closure: September 25, 2024 at 9:00 pm

Date of Reopen: Day lockers will be available for use throughout the facility during the renovation; Day-use lockers will be available in the locker rooms once the locker room renovation is completed. Rental lockers will no longer be available moving forward.

Scope of Work: All contents in rented lockers must be removed. Contents not removed will be removed by staff on 09/26/2024 and will be held for a period of seven days. After seven days, all contents will be donated to Coordinated Charities of Athens.

Scope of Work: Move contents of each room to new location, painting, technology moves, new door installed, etc.

Reopen Date: The Aquatics Office has been relocated with our other staff offices and will not reopen in its current location.

Scope of Work: The Aquatics Office will now become home to two new Family Locker Rooms and an ADA pool lift.

Scope of Work: The vending machine has been temporarily relocated to the upper lobby for the duration of the project. It will be moved back to a new designated location in the lower lobby at the end of the project.
